I am trying to figure out the greatest NFL team ever

Sure there have been some great ones......
and it is hard to measure greatness compared over the years as the game changes so much from year to year
For example, Joe Namaths 4000+ Passing yards in 67 would not hold a candle to Drew Brees this year.

So it may be hard to narrow down to just one
So who are some of the greatest teams of all times? 1929 Packers? 1955 Browns? 1957 Colts ? 1972 Dolphins ? 1976 Raiders? Give me some ideas and reasons here please and thanks

I'll resist the urge to put my homer glasses on (although there were certainly great Steelers teams in the 70's) and say the 85 bears. They went 15-1. They were +258 thanks to an amazing defense. In the playoffs they won 21-0, 24-0 and 46-10 in the SB.

I agree...best one year team Ive ever seen. To move the ball at ALL against them was an accomplishment..never seen the likes of that.

Greatest teams ever

1- Pittsburgh Steelers of the 1970s---talk about defense
2- Green Bay Packers 1966-68----they dared you to stop them and nobody could
3--Chicago Bears 1985-86----unbelievable defense
4- San Francisco 49ers----Montana and Young era----precison Bill Walsh offense
5- Dallas Cowboys -----early 90s-----tough both on offense and defense---great teams

I would love to hear your reasoning behind this statement.

49ers allow 13.5 points a game. #1 in NFL

49ers allow only 75 yards rushing a game. #1 in NFL. Niners did not allow a TD in their first 14 games of season. Tied 1985 Bears. Longest streak since 1970. WOW

Tied for second in INT at 21.

Second at Ffum at 18.

Top 10 in Sacks.

Second in PD at 98.

Certainly impressive. But how exactly does that stack up against the all time great defenses? You made quite a claim in saying it was one of the greatest defenses of all time.

So where exactly would you put them? Top 10? Top 5?

How about the 1985 Bears defense or the 1994-95 49ers Defense?
