Certain members of the media see downright giddy at the thought of the Patriots dynasty finally coming to an end.

What may very well have happened (some beat writers have mentioned this and anyone paying attention could glean this from the situation) is that a in 2014 Belichick was thinking Tom had 2-3 more years and then he would retire. Once Brady his 39 or 40 he would either retire on his own, or his play would see a drop off and he would retire as a result. That obviously did not happen given he's 40 and had an All Pro season and could very well win the MVP. Belichick was holding onto Jimmy thinking this could be the year we finally see a drop off from Brady and that obviously did not happen. That's why I think they did not move him this past off-season. Instead of getting nothing for him they shipped him to SF (where Bill thought he would have a good situation) and got a second round pick for him.

Personally, I was hoping that Brady would announce 2017 would be his final season and then from 2018 it would be Jimmy G.
I'm with you and I think this ^ ultimately was what happened. There was no chance Brady was going to step down after this season, he has made that abundantly clear. Even if they win the SB he will be back (and he needs to now with Jimmy gone)

I also wanted to see what Jimmy G could do here but how do you move on from Brady now after this season?

He did look mortal the last 5 games though, if Brady plays like that through the playoffs and through next season I think there will be legitimate second guessing on moving on from Jimmy especially if he continues to play well in SF.

If anything it was very "Patriotlike".....like the trades/releases of Lawyer Milloy, Richard Seymour, Logan Mankins, Wes Welker, Chandler Jones, Jamie Collins....all were "shocking" at the time and what did we get in return???

The QB position was untenable in this salary cap era. You can't pay 2 starters at the position, it isn't possible and Jimmy G was going to command starter money.

It was the trade deadline, it was either trade for a 2nd or let him walk at the end of the season for nothing. He wasn't going to sign with the Pats again with no obvious chance to start.

I really don't see anything nefarious going on, the timing just didn't work. Jimmy G came along a couple of seasons too soon.

Brady was just named 1st team All Pro, will likely win the MVP in a couple of weeks and is coming off the greatest comeback win in SB history....do you let him go NOW.

Yeah Jimmy G looked good in a small sample size this season with the 49ers with little tape on him and no defenses game planning specifically for HIS weaknesses. He may turn out to be the "next great thing" he could just as easily be the next Andy Dalton....
As stated above I have to believe Coach B has a plan............whether it's him or scouts or whoever, the Patriots always seem to find these unknown players or those players not being utilized by their current teams that play exceptionally when they wind up with the Pat's.

As a life long Patriots fan I know and understand that this extraordinary dynasty that has given the fans Division championships and Super Bowl victories is going to be hard to carry on once Coach B steps down.

The timing of the article is totally suspect to ESPN and the write looking for glory. Are there "truths" stated in the article? I say yes. If anyone thinks that 18 years of excellence means the organization sings kumbaya everyday is naive. Garoppolo just came to the Pats a few years too early. Tom is still the top of the heap of QB's, and Jimmy wasn't going to be franchised. I believe Brady has earned the right to leave as a Patriot on his terms, even if it affects the franchise for years afterwards. He IS in rarified air, and I as a fan am owed NOTHING from this team ever again in my lifetime. It all still circles back to this being the media trying to flex their muscles.

I think it will be a Pats/Steelers-Falcons/Saints championship weekend.

I have the Pats, Steelers, Saints, and Eagles winning this weekend and moving to the AFC/NFC round. Not doing too bad in the pool - 3 of 4 last weekend...

Came across this interview of Coach Belichick from a couple of months after the Super Bowl win. 16 minutes in length. This is at a place in Annapolis and the tradition there is that they sing the national anthem at noon every day. No one taking a knee here:

Here's a little cute something I saw and heard the other day.

During part of this week's show of the new season of The X-Files, one of the deceased Lone Gunmen is in another dimension that is not nice and he tells Mulder and Scully that The Patriots are there and "they never win a game. NEVER!" I cracked up on that one! Even Hollyweird hates the Pats!! Good for us! 🤣
