The Patriots came much closer than the Bears. The Patriots were less than a minute away from perfection. The Bears lost to the Dolphins in 1985 by a score of 38-24, and trailed by 21 points until they scored a late touchdown. After the Patriots, the next-closest to perfection - at least since the Super Bowl began to be played - was the 1984 49ers. They went 18-1, their only loss 20-17 to the Steelers, who tied the game with a touchdown with three minutes remaining and then kicked the game-winning field goal as minutes later after
a Montana interception. That was all they needed because Ray Wersching missed a 37-years field goal in the waning seconds that would have tied the game.

PS - After the Patriots, the Bears and the 49ers, the only other 1-loss team* in the Super Bowl era was the 1976 Oakland Raiders, who had their season spoiled by... a 48-17 drubbing at a certain place then called Schaefer Stadium.

* - Not counting the 1967 Baltimore Colts, who went 11-1-2 but missed the playoffs.

As much as not going 19-0 stung, in hindsight that doesn't hold a lot of importance to me over what the Pats have accomplished. That one year accomplishment sits in the record books, but doesn't hold a candle to what Brady/Belichick have done.

And? I'd say a minority of players actually play for the teams they admired and followed as kids.

Anyone know what the guy said?

Tom Brady ends WEEI interview, upset with remark about daughter

Brady ended his call with the Kirk & Callahan Show after saying he was disappointed to hear the remarks of Alex Reimer, who used unflattering language to refer to Brady's young daughter shown in footage of the quarterback's new "Tom vs. Time" documentary on Facebook.

"I've tried to come on this show for many years and showed you guys a lot of respect," said Brady, who has a contractual relationship set up through the Patriots to appear on the show weekly during the football season. "I've always tried to come on and do a good job for you guys. It's very disappointing when you hear that, certainly. My daughter, or any child, certainly don't deserve that."

Never mind... found it.

WEEI Host Alex Reimer Calls Tom Brady’s 5 Year Old Daughter “An Annoying Little Pissant”

Audio is here.

The host has been suspended and the station scrubbed the audio. But of course, with the internet - just about anything under the sun is recorded.

Chowds, we don't hate the New England Patriots, we don't hate Tom Brady, nor do we hate Bill Belichick.

We are disgusted with you about reporters going after family.

As a Bronco fan, I am able to separate my drive to win from good sportsmanship.

I hate every NFL player who kneels and every idiot who tries to justify it. I also hate every American who hates my President and those ashamed to accept an invite to our White House.

That aside, may the best team win Sunday.

Pats fans agree. The guy that disparaged Brady's daughter is a 25 year old third stringer on a Boston sports talk station. Most had never heard of the guy until this controversy arose.

I was born in Boston and lived in or near there until I was 19. I was a big fan of the old Boston Patriots and went to several gmes in old Braves Field. I adopted another team when I moved to Minnesota in 1969. Talk about heartbreaks! But my mom loved the NE Pats until the day she died. So, in her memory, I want the Pats to win. I don't see how they could lose, but then I thought the same thing about the Vikings in the NFC conference playoff. The Eagles have a strong run defense and pass rush, but Keenum is a water boy compared to Brady. I don't think any team, this year, could stop NE in the Super Bowl, but I just hope NE doesn't have to come from behind. It's important to not let that happen against the Eagles.

I don't care what NEs defense ranks or what their Oline looks like. Their players get up for games and outplay the other team... It seems to me. It makes no logical sense, but seems this way to me.

HH has another way of saying this, think MikefromBackEast would agree, if Brady and Bellichick are on the field, they find a way.

Left Boston 15 years ago but used to listen to EEI every morning and evening during my commute, even then the hosts were hard to take.

I am still able to watch NBCS Boston on Directv with Felger and Mazz and these guys haven't changed, for local "Boston sports reporters" I swear they get more joy out of tearing down the local teams than celebrating their accomplishments...

What irritates me the most about Reimer is that while Brady is taking the high road this guy STILL hasn't offered an apology...the station apologized....other hosts on the show apologized but the 25 yo pissant that started the whole mess hasn't had the cajones to own up to his stupidity....

While Brady may say he hopes the guy doesn't lose his job, even in Boston where the shock jocks like to tear down their icons, I don't see how you insult Brady's kids and stay on the air....

If and when this guy ever comes back on air the folks who call in will be merciless and Boston Sports Fans have loooong memories

Alright, I'm just gonna put this out there...sacrilegious or not...and maybe I'm alone in my thinking.

I've been following this team since Plunkett was QB, I was 14 when my dad took me to my first game 1n 1976 to see the Pats destroy the Raiders and Grogan was my favorite athlete growing up, that 76 team may have been one of the best and should have been in the SB that year.

I am as excited as always for this upcoming Super Bowl but part of me almost feels guilty over all the success our team has experienced....to the point that while of course I WANT to see the Pats win Sunday I don't think I'll be that upset if they lose....

Maybe its the Puritan Yankee coming out in me that feels like its time for the other shoe to drop?

I don't know...I just know the last 9 times we went to the Super Bowl (OK maybe 8 I don't think even as an ardent Pats supporter that I really thought they had a chance against the Bears) that the week before the game my stomach was in knots just hoping the Pats could pull it off and win this game favored or not...

I guess I feel like there really isn't much left to prove? No one is going to think less of Brady or Belichick at this point they have both cemented their status as GOAT's no matter the outcome...

On the other hand, this does have the feel of a last hurrah of sorts. Brady may want to play until 45 but realistically what's he got left? Maybe 2 years?

Likely new coaches including all 3 Co ordinators and maybe Dante hanging em up again (didn't turn out too well last time HE retired)

Pats will still be good while Brady is there but more Super Bowls? Not so sure with all the changes coming...

I would love to see one last win on the big stage I just don't think I'll be overly upset if they lose....and I think its a real possibility against this Eagles team...
