That's for an organ donation to a living recipient. This is entirely different. Even if he had checked the box it wouldn't apply in this situation.

The family is consulting with elders on the decision of what to do which is very traditional in Samoan families.

Bringing this thread up to date.

The NFL Channel and ESPN has reported that the tests involving the death of Junior Seau are concluded. The National Institute of Health based out of Bethesda, Maryland has said the cause of the death of Junior Seau was due to CTE (Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy.)

not saying I disagree but it's interesting that you refer to CTE as the cause of death and not that he shot himself in the heart

Report: Junior Seau suffered from CTE, a syndrome caused by repeated head trauma | Shutdown Corner - Yahoo! Sports

In his 20-year NFL career, Seau was never listed as having a concussion on any medical or injury report.

and most "fans" think the nfl is being wussified by their "heavy-handed" officiating of helmet to helmet hits.

Agreed. What I meant to say that he did indeed suffer from CTE, and it was not the immediate cause of death.

Thanks for the heads up!

Study -- Junior Seau's brain shows chronic brain damage found in other NFL football players - ESPN

I find this part of the story, really distressing.

Seau, who also played for Miami and New England, was never listed by his teams as having had a concussion.
Thankfully the NFL is smartening up on concussion tests right on the sideline and holding players out. I know it is too little too late for many past players but it is progress.

If he really was broke, and there are many reasons why it could be true, so I'll just sit tight and hope we get some followup news.

A gunshot would to the chest and later diagnosed with CTE to me means that he believed there was something wrong up there before science proved it.

The NFL should be very nervous about this. What mother wouldn't prefer to have her son play baseball instead of football knowing that CTE is not a rare thing? Yes, all sports have risks but football is probably the worst of the popular sports.

I suspect that I am probably misinterpreting what you are saying, but he didnt shoot himself because he believed something was wrong.
He shot himself because something was wrong, period.
There's much we dont know about CTE, but what we do know is it messes up their head, their thinking, their rationality.
I have a husky type great grandson, who is 10 months. We all said, yep a future linebacker.
In recent months I have changed my mind. When someone says he should play in the NFL, I say "No football." Too risky.
