Sadly, this is not a surprise. I don't know where these guys go for financial advice or how much trust they put into people but something has to change.

Vince Young reportedly owes $1.69 million for lockout loan | ProFootballTalk

How much money can you go through during a brief lockout. Living pretty high on the hog.

If Tarvarus Jackson beats you out you are done. Hello CFL.

Vince Young has to be one of the biggest disappointments I've seen in a long time. In college and in his first year he seemed like he was mature beyond his years, but somewhere along the way he just snapped. It reminds me of Ricky Williams a little. A guy with a ton of talent who just couldn't stay out of his own way when he hit the big time. Ironic they're both ex-longhorns. Williams was at least able to come back and partially rebuild his career, but if Vinny does it he'll have to be a converted player somehow. The wildcat and newer red zone offenses just might be his saving grace if he ever can convince an NFL team to give him another shot. He's still a tremendously talented athlete; he just might need a system like what the Jets and Panthers use in the zone, and he needs the humility to accept that role. But being the guy to run the team? Nah, those days are done.

According to public records, Vince Young was one of at least 10 NFL players who turned to Pro Player Funding for cash during the lockout. Loan documents show he borrowed the $1.9 million at 20 percent interest, with $619,122 in interest paid up front, and agreed that a judgment could be entered if he missed a payment.

Holy crap - $1.9 mil at 20 percent?? I can't even wrap my mind around that.

I am sad when I here these stories (though it is really up to every person to control themselves). I wish there was better help with planning and controling spending. It seems the NFL is trying some things but it doesnt always work.

I think it is difficult for many of these folks as they spend most of their lives being a star and at times the reality of life does not always make sense to them.

Kidphilly makes some good points. I read somewhere that the NFLPA has had input in this regarding this subject. But I don't know how far it's gone. I really don't expect the players to have degrees in economics, but seeking advice regarding money management certainly is a no brainer. If I hit the Donald Trump lotto regarding the megabuck contract I signed I personally would seek advice from a trusted investment firm. sad.

What's even sadder is a great athlete at his age is out of the game.

I think it is a matter of players being too quick to give their "partnaz from the hood" their business. I saw in Terrell Owens case he trusted a family friend to control his investments and you saw how that turned out. I think you keep your business about money seperate from your friends and family if you can and go to trusted individuals or place your money in things that are guaranteed like annuities and CDs.
