It is legal if done making a tackle. Not so much if done after.

In 2006, Troy Polamalu (Pittsburgh Steelers) was tackled by Larry Johnson (Kansas City Chiefs) when Johnson pulled Polamalu down by his long hair. The tackle was fair. Upon getting up, however, it looked as if Johnson pulled Polamalu up by his hair. Because this happened after the play was over, the Chiefs were given a 15-yard penalty.

Ray Horton, DC of the Cardinals, has long braids. When he went for his hiring interview he apologized to Michael Bidwill (owner Bill Bidwill's son and the president of the Cardinals) for not cutting his braids. He was worried that it showed a lack of respect. Michael told him not to worry that he actually liked the braids.

Considering we're now calling the Defense "Horton's Heroes" I'd guess Mr. Bidwill has no problem with braids, dreads or long hair.

Never mind the fact that Larry Fitzgerald wears his dreads in honor of his late mother. And he's the most popular man in the state of Arizona. (Great photo in the OP. His hair is even longer now. )

I think Sheriff Joe would challenge that assertion.

Anyway, I have many more things to worry about besides how an NFL player wears their hair.

This. Anybody remember Larry Johnson tackling Polamula by his hair back in 2006 or 2007? I know there have been other instances but that one was particularly funny.

I think Sheriff Joe is going for the "infamous" label at this point.

And now, back to your regularly scheduled program

If this is something that bothers you, you should be drug out into your front yard and shot. I pity anyone that thinks this is an issue.

I posted that tackle......and if it's legal, then I wanna see more hair pulling!!

I remember Edgerrin James getting pulled by his dreads in Cleveland!!

I dont know if Polian had a loooong talk with him or if Edge just got some good sense. But his hair was cut by the next game!!

It's stupid......if its covering your name, it's too long!
