A recent sampling of a survey of 500 Washington DC residents found that...
  • 77% believe that Washington team owner Dan Snyder should meet face-to-face with Native Americans who have expressed concerns about the use of the R-word slur as the NFL team's name.
  • interesting enough, in that 66% feel that If Snyder does attend the meeting, it would it be inappropriate for him to use the term "redskins" when talking NOT about the football team, but when talking about Native Americans themselves? *Apparently somehow forgetting that this is a term of respect for the brave Indians who "painted themselves red" before riding into battle.
  • Most poll respondents (59%) say Native Americans have a right to feel offended by the term "redskins" and 44% say that when they learn the term is defined as "offensive" by the dictionary, they are more likely to support changing the team name, 18% say this would make them less likely to support changing the name.

errr no they are called Spurs...as in HotSPUR....but the nickname they give themselves is causing issues right now...the area of Tottenham is heavily populated by the Jewish community and they have a fair number of fans from the community...so they call THEMSELVES yids...........

That is true, but I have seen many supporters of other clubs on non Spurs forums refer to them as the Spuds. So I should have clarified that, sorry. It's not their official nickname.

I said this in another thread, but it sort of got lost.
They should take "Washington" out, because it's so embarrassing, or they should just change the logo to a potato, since potatoes don't get offended.

Actually, Charles Krauthammer had a pretty good column about this today or yesterday.

As a Sooner Fan I have always been offended by the use of "Sooner." It gives the rest of us Land Thieves a bad name.. Hopefully, you will sense the overt sarcasm by my assertion. (Mod cut-one sentence deletion)
