I know that the NFL doesn't like having two teams in the same conference in the same market but wouldn't it make more sense to switch the teams as follows:
Indy and Baltimore then
Baltimore and Miami then
Miami and Dallas then
Dallas and Carolina
That would place:
Indy in the AFC north instead of AFC South
Baltimore in the AFC East instead of in the AFC north
Miami in the NFC East instead of the AFC East
Dallas in the NFC south instead of NFC East and
Carolina in the AFC south instead of NFC South
Miami would remain in the east but switch AFC for NFC to allow Baltimore to be an east team but not in the same conference as Baltimore
Carolina would stay in the south but switch NFC for AFC to allow Dallas to be in the south but not in the same conference as Houston
the 8 teams in the west would not change, neither would the NFC North.
AFC North Indianapolis
Cleveland
Cincinnati
Pittsburgh
Yes, it would in the case of Dallas and Carolina...but when they realigned the divisions a while ago (putting Arizona in the NFC West and out of the NFC East, for example), I thought I read that Dallas requested to stay in the NFC East due to its traditional rivaliries with the rest of the teams in the division.

I believe this was the case for Dallas & Miami. Neither team wanted to lose their traditional division rivals.

lol, well the Cowboys do cherish tradition.
but yeah Arizona in an eastern division makes even less sense than Dallas.
Still trying to figure out how indy is in a southern division

The NFL did its best to keep the traditional divisional rivalries in place... it was not a Dallas team decison.
It was a league decision to keep Dallas in the East and keep the rivalries in place. Arizona was just the odd man out of the NFC East. Just like Tampa Bay was the odd man out of the NFC North and Seattle was the odd man out of the AFC West.
From a business and marketing perspective... Why would you have the wealthiest and one of the most popular franchises change divisions and thus the popular rivalries simply because of Geography? That would be a stupid... So to that end, No I dont think the OP's divisions make more sense.
Makes sense to me but they probably won't change them any time soon.
Yeah, how many years did it take us to finally get rid of the Bucs in our division? Like putting Tampa Bay in a division with the Packers, Vikes, Bears and Lions makes any sense at all.
I like the OP's idea. Common sense for sure. So in that spirit I'm sure it will never happen.
