So I'm sure all of you have noticed the success of the Redskins, Seahawks, and 49ers running the zone read as a staple of their offense. How much of a lasting impact do you think it will have on NFL offenses? Will it become a legit offensive scheme in the NFL, just like all of the college teams that have found success with it? Or will it fade away like the wildcat?

Good question. Only time will tell.
I'm personally not a fan of having my QB running in the open field (often). If I'm a defensive coordinator, I slip a few grand to Jonathan Vilma and have him take the QB out...which is essentially what Haloti Nagata did to RG3.
I think its here to stay. If you watch college football most of the teams are running this type of offensive. The drop back QB will fazed out in the future. Slowly but surely.

Most college teams do not have the speed of NFL defenses, either. That makes a big difference.
Conversely then, if the Niners win the Supet Bowl ... zone read-a-palooza?
Intentionally putting the guy with the highest salary on the team in harm's way running the ball makes no sense. It'd be like taking a Ferrari Enzo and running it on a washboard gravel road at 120mph. It may not break right away but eventually it will, and when it does it'll cost you a crapload of cash to get it fixed.
I can't wait for the Falcons/49ers game and it will be interesting if the 49ers get to the SB. Sports writers I've read say that is the biggest concern, injury factor. One guy was funny about it, saying you don't want to irritate a bunch of LBs, they get mad if they have to chase you all over the place (or something to that effect)!
Vince Young, best zone-read college QB of all time!
NFL is always changing: 4-3, 3-4 defenses, I formation, single back, double TE sets, wildcat, going for it on 4th down and 30 (college coaches in the NFL).
I think the zone-read is here to stay IF a team can get the right QB to run that offense. All the teams you mentioned in the OP went to the playoffs based on that offense.
