The coach decides who is and who is not on the team. You give the coach a few years to rebuild the team, if it is not working out you fire the coach. Coughlin has been there long enough that the team there is the team he built. I do not think teams really differ in deciding on letting coaches or players go. Your example does not really show any differences because the Eagles were going downhill fast when Reid got fired. Pats have not won a sb for a while, but they have been making deep playoff runs consistently for more than a decade with BB.
