I don't think the original poster put a great deal of research into the origins of the team names. Some names are well publicized and others not so much.
I think you may be right.
The CARDINALS (Arizona, Phoenix, St Louis, Chicago) came from the cardinal red jersey that the Chicago Cardinals wore the last time the franchise won an NFL title.
I think my post on the other thread about offensive team nicknames was more entertaining, even if some middle school commentator thought otherwise. (All team names would offend someone, except the Seahawks and perhaps the Eagles)
And I won't waste anymore time explaining any more of it, I have to go to Pizza Hut. I am trying to see how fat I can get this week or something.
Yeah, I wonder what the nickname of mayor Bartle was, the guy who got the Texans to move to Kansas City in the 60's? Somehow, Kansas City Texans does not sound right, and if his nickname had been "MUDD" then they'd be the Kansas City Muds.
[b]The name Seahawk does come from a bird native to the northwest, the Osprey. Seahawk is but one of many nicknames for the awesome Osprey. The osprey has a tendency to tear its victims apart.
The Osprey is the most widespread bird species in the world, so it is pretty much native everywhere.
How about we switch nicknames for ALL franchises and see how they sound or look or possibly see if the new names make any sense??? Could be fun right????

I get the feeling you don't know the history of some of these names. I'm not gonna spend an entire 10 minutes explaining WHY some teams have their names, but here they are: Nicknames
