there were definitely a lot of cookie cutter stadiums that had the dual purpose
I just don't recall any of the domed stadiums (or even some of the outside ones with artificial turf) that had infield dirt during football games ..... I recall them covering those patches, but in doing so creating some pretty awful seems that could trip up/injure a player instead
The Astrodome had the dirt exposed in September. The covering was used when baseball was over.
Not baseball related, but didn't the Pontiac Silverdome host Lions and Pistons games in the 80's before the Pistons moved to The Palace of Auburn Hills in 1988 or 89?
No multi-use stadium took a bigger beating than the old Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington Minnesota. Everyone loves to talk about the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field. The weather is even colder in the Twin Cities. Football fans absolutely froze to death while Bud Grant walked the sidelines still wearing a baseball cap. Nothing Vikings fans liked better than welcoming the LA Rams for a playoff game. Their players would practically throw their hands up and give in thanks to that wonderful home weather advantage. Add to the weather is that this stadium was first and foremost built for baseball. Crappy seating everywhere.

Indeed. In 1988, the Pistons set the NBA single game attendance record against Boston in the Silverdome..

Being "older", watching football from the 60's, I remember the Bears at Wrigley! They played there a long time, 1920s-1970, started playing at current stadium, Soldier Field in 1971.

When the Pack played in Milwaukee, was the baseball field exposed?
