What a waste.

Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Justin Blackmon has been suspended indefinitely for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, the league announced Friday.

Blackmon's suspension begins immediately. He will be eligible to apply for reinstatement prior to the start of the 2014 season.

"All of us who are a part of the Jaguars family care very deeply about Justin and his well-being," Jacksonville general manager David Caldwell said. "That said, he must be held accountable and accept the consequences announced today by the NFL. His suspension will provide him the opportunity to receive the attention and professional treatment necessary to overcome his challenges, and we will support him during this time. The Jacksonville Jaguars will evaluate Justin's status once he has successfully met the criteria to be considered for reinstatement to the league."

It's a repeat offense for Blackmon, who also was suspended for the first four games of this season for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Can't really blame him... I wouldn't want to play for the Jags while sober either.

Wow. Well, if the Jags had any shot whatsoever of winning a game this year, they don't now. I hope Von Miller of my Broncos hears about this.

"What a waste." Manderly6 is right. Here's why:

Justin Blackmon was Jacksonville's #1 draft choice in the 2012 draft He was picked 5th.

Blackmon won the 2011 and the 2012 "Fred Biletnikoff" award as the best pass receiver in college ball in those two years.

He has picked up two DUI's even before he got to the pro ranks. And I saw his play in the Jaguar/Bronco game three weeks ago. How about 14 catches for 190 yards?

He's going into the tank at a record rate. Sad.

Too many pubs in London for Justin. The London Jags are really screwed now. I don't blame him. Drunk is the only way to deal with the Jags.

I'm always curious what and how exactly does the NFL define substance abuse. Google doesn't help. What did Blackmon use & abuse? I can't find an article that mentions it. Marijuana, adderall, PEDs? I found 1 article that mentioned a past DUI, but it didn't say what was the involved in this instance.

Thing is, the team is going to have to scramble some WR off the taxi squad now, and that may hurt their chances of making the playoffs !
Talk about being irresponsible and letting your team-mates, as well as your employer, down.....

It really is too bad. He was a guy that the offense could have been built to feature. On a team with so many needs it's a shame the one area where they have a legitimate weapon that guy can't stay disciplined enough to remain on the team. He is suspended indefinitely, so I wonder if that means a total of 16 games, the remainder of the season, or what. I wonder when we find out what the decision will be. The Jags may just choose to move on.
