Ex-BYU and NFL star Todd Christensen dies at age 57

Former BYU football star, five-time NFL Pro Bowler, two-time Super Bowl champion and television sports analyst Todd Christensen died Wednesday morning during surgery at a local hospital.

Christensen, who has battled liver disease and other serious illnesses in recent years, was 57.

Drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in the second round of the 1978 NFL Draft, Christensen’s pro career took off in 1982 with the Raiders, when he caught 42 passes for 510 yards and four touchdowns in the strike-shortened 1982 season. In 1983, his best season in the pros, Christensen caught 92 passes for 1,247 yards and 12 touchdowns.

His 349 catches from 1983-86 set at NFL record.

Wow.. very sad.
I remember Christiansen's career very well. Tom Landry of the Cowboys wanted to convert him to TE but but Todd was against that move so they cut him.

Of course then he goes to the Raiders and figures he better at least try the TE position or he may be out of the NFL. Viola, he becomes one of the best TE in the game for about a 5 year period.

I also remember his football analysis from the booth. He always seemed to come up with these big words that no one knew or cared to know what they meant. He was able to deliver them well so I guess it wasn't too bad but he almost caught me off guard with some crazy word from the booth!

I wondered what the heck happened to him. I know the last I heard him was on Saturday doing college games out west but that had to of been 5 years ago...

he will be missed!
