Okay, Seattle is up 17 to 16 against the 49ers with about 2 and a half minutes to go in the game and no timeouts. The 49ers just picked up a first in goal around the 8 yard line. Next play is a run. IMO, the smart move would be to let the 49ers score there with the hope of giving your offense over two minutes to drive 80 or so yards for a TD.

The 49ers ended up kicking the game winning field goal with about 25 seconds left.

If you were the coach what would you do? What do you think Belicheck would do?

The Seahawks offense is not the Patriots offense. Very few offenses can drive down at will & score a TD the last 2 min of a game. Then consider the very talented & physical defense of the 49ers.

I wouldn't even factor the offense in. I'm more worried that they were left with less than 25 seconds to get a field goal. Even my Bills drove 80 yards with no timeouts and two minutes against the Panthers in week two.

In this situation the 49ers weren't trying to score a TD... If I were Harbaugh and it was obvious the Seahawks would let me score I'd take a knee instead.

What's better? Scoring a TD to take a 23-17 lead giving the Seahawks the ball back with 2 mins left and no timeouts...

or...

Taking a knee and letting the clock run down then kicking a chip shot field goal to take a 19-17 lead giving the Seahawks the ball back with 20 seconds left and no timeouts?

Exactly my point. If you are Pete Carroll and the Seahawks you at least try to bait the 49ers into scoring a TD.

Both are not good situations to be in. But I feel like you have a better chance taking the 2:30 needing a TD over taken 25 seconds and needing a FG.

I was thinking the same thing.. the Seahawks needed to let the 49ers score a TD after they got to 1st and goal.
