So many games end on lousy, failed onside kicks followed by 2 or 3 kneel downs. If each team had a 4th timeout (in the second half), the losing team would be in the game longer (not having to resort to onside kicks). It would make for a more exciting product on the field.
Basically I really don't like how a team can be so penalized for blowing a timeout early in the half (or losing a challenge). It's a difference of 40+ seconds on the game clock which can decide the outcome of a game.

No matter how many time outs you give a team there will always be kneel downs at the end of games. It might happen later after the other team had one more possession, but nothing will really change in the long run.
I find your statement odd when you say you don't like how a team can be penalized for blowing a timeout. Teams should always be penalize when they "blow" something. When you "blow" a chance in the redzone you are penalized. When you "blow" a third and one conversion you are penalized. That is pretty much the definition of "blowing" something.
(I eagerly await commentary on my use of the word "blowing")
Not to mention too many injuries already. Are you really losing that much action at the end of a game vs getting players hurt? Besides, in most cases, teams have, what?, roughly 58+ minutes of gametime to change the outcome?...do something then--you have your opportunities.

How about this?
I look at things differently...
Many, many times, teams are guilty of lousy clock management. This is VOLUNTARY. If teams were better at clock management in most cases, they would have their timeouts at the end of the game rather than blowing them.
You know the networks would be happy. More time to squeeze in even more ads than they already currently do.
