Plus I read that students lined up forming a barrier so a church group couldn't get closer to stage their protest.

It was the Westboro Baptist nutjobs, and please don't call them a "church". At best, they can be considered a hate group that engages in some elements of child abuse. Come to think of it, I don't believe most hate groups are as vile and dispicable as Westboro. This is primarily because Westboro indoctrinates very young children into their group. Anybody that makes a six year old stand on a corner holding a sign that says "God hates f*gs" needs to be incarcerated. They're not a church. They're simply an extended family of hateful bigots and conniving lawyers that use God as a cover to justify their agenda.

Much of the media attention was probably lessened for the NFL and Michael Sam today.
Today, possibly orchestrated by David Stern, the Brooklyn Nets of the NBA signed Jason Collins, a known homosexual to a 10-day contract. They will now get the major attention that this signing will generate.
I guess that MLB and the NHL will soon try to follow suit.

Not a good showing at the combines this weekend:

Aaron Donald, Michael Sam among Monday's combine risers and sliders | Audibles - SI.com

DE Michael Sam, Missouri
Sam absolutely won the day last Saturday when he took to the podium at the scouting combine and answered all kinds of questions (stupid and otherwise) about his decision to come out as the first openly gay draft prospect in NFL history. But when it came to the field drills, Sam’s average overall talent was again problematic — as it has been on his game tape. He ran a 4.91 40 and looked very upright and stiff on the track and in drills. It supports the notion that when NFL teams are looking to place him on their rosters, Sam will present issues from a positional perspective. There are those who believe that he’s got the outside speed to switch to 3-4 linebacker, though one wonders about his ability to drop into coverage. And, does he have the pure power to become a professional run-side end, which I believe would be his most natural fit in the league?
Michael Sam unimpressive at NFL Scouting Combine,*struggles in 40-yard dash and weight room* - NY Daily News
Quote:
His performance at Lucas Oil Stadium didn’t help. The SEC defensive player of the year started the afternoon by running a dismal 4.91-second 40-yard dash, the same time as 302-pound defensive tackle Caraun Reid of Princeton. Later, he struggled changing direction and moving in drills, awkwardly hurdling obstacles and flashing stiff hips. This all came after a disappointing performance in the weight room, where Sam finished third from last with 17 reps at 225 pounds.
Quote:
Despite all that, coaches still wanted to see Sam do the “linebacker conversion drill,” performed by defensive ends who may be asked to shift to linebacker, and again, he struggled. Scouts want to see players shift from a backpedal to a forward sprint in one fluid motion, but Sam needed two shuffle steps to change direction.

Very interesting that there is next to nothing about his combine performance on ESPN.

I think that a team could certainly use him as a specialist, but would it be worth the risk for them? Will they be able to handle the attention from what appears to be a marginal NFL talent? We will see.

He will get drafted, local reports are he is a 4-5th round pick. May slide with the iffy combine results.

ESPN has probably been quiet as he is a potential gold mine for news they don't want to lose.
