CBS Dumps Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe, Adds Tony Gonzalez

CBS announced Tuesday that Tony Gonzalez has joined “The NFL Today” as an analyst, working alongside James Brown, Bill Cowher, and Boomer Esiason. The Big Lead first reported CBS’ flirtation with Gonzalez.

CBS also announced the departures of Dan Marino and Shannon Sharpe, wishing them “the best” as “they pursue other professional opportunities” (CBS, 2/18). Marino and Sharpe both had long tenures at CBS, the former joining the network in 2002 and the latter in 2004

NFL Partners with CBS on 2014 Thursday Night Football Package

The National Football League will team with long-time broadcast partner CBS to produce and televise Thursday Night Football for the 2014 season

...
CBS will air eight early season games that also will be simulcast on NFL Network. NFL Network will also televise eight late-season games in the run-up to the playoffs. The mix of games will include 14 on Thursday nights and two late-season games on Saturday.

The full slate of 16 regular-season games will be produced by CBS with its lead broadcasters and production team, including JIM NANTZ and PHIL SIMMS, on all Thursday night games. In a new twist, NFL Network hosts and analysts will be featured in the pregame, halftime and postgame shows along with CBS Sports announcers.

What it doesn't say - Mayock and Nessler - out as game announcers.

I'm pretty sure Dan and Shannon will be active many places in the media. I totally get why someone would want to bring on Tony Gonzalez. Just like someone, maybe ESPN, grabbed Ray Lewis, the moment he was out of playing.
