What name players are so on the far side of their great years that they are likely to be cut? Leadoff mentioned Hakeem Nicks. Teams need cap space. Past glory may have to go away to get the cap space. I wonder who will be unwillingly retired. Is Clay Matthews in any danger? If he got cut, who would snap him up?
Packers extended him in 2013 through 2018 I believe. Broke his thumb twice but no reason to let him go. They still to beef up the "D" because Clay gets double teamed all the time. Contrary to public opinion, Packers don't have cap issues.
I've heard rumors that the Pats are gonna let Wilfork go, and it makes sense given his age, salary, and Belicheat's track record of cutting guys the minute their cap hit outweighs their value as he sees it.
Well, as one person said, he's under contract for years. He's 28. I don't know what the career arc is for linebackers. I know some analysts say the 20's are about what running backs get. Ray Lewis retired in his late 30's. But he wasn't physically at the top of his game for every year of his career.
Anyway, Matthews is just an interesting case. I wonder who else who has a big name could be on the downward spiral like Chad Ochocinqo and Terrell Owens were. The type of player who gets a contract for a few weeks instead of a year.
James Jones (WR) will probably be leaving the Packers. He would like to stay in GB but not their way and a solid guy (Boykin) behind him. Nelson and Cobb need contract extensions next year, I think JJ will go. He lead the NFL with 14 TDs in 2012, had some injuries in 2013 plus he is 30, a magic age! A great, down to earth guy, family man, no issues, but they can't keep everyone.
I'm wondering if Giants are going to go after some of Packers FAs (19?) now that Ben McAdoo is there. JJ would be a strong possibility, maybe RB Starks and center ED-S.
They NEED some serious rebuilding. They've been in failure mode and now the taxpayers are helping build a glossy billion dollar, football-only stadium. The Vikings are a long way from deserving such fancy surroundings.
Some teams can't tolerate rule-breaking. A few really good players might get a coaching up on a really good team, but a lousy team needs the discipline more.
