I've said this many many many times: A penalty should NEVER benefit the team penalized. A team should ALWAYS have the option to decline a penalty against an opponent. The Lions today took a delay of game penalty on a missed FG attempt as time expired. Without that penalty the game is over and the Lions lose. Because of that penalty the Lions back up 5 yards and get another chance, kicking a game winner.
PLEASE, NFL, take a look at this in the off season!

I think that was awesome! Haha. But I understand your point. However isnt there a strategy sometime s where a team will intentionally take a delay of game to back up a little for a field goal? I think they did that on purpose.
Juuuust kidding.
Congratulations to Detroit and those who gave Detroit a chance even though they had some key player injuries. That was HUGEfor the Lions!!! They did earn that win and credit where credits due!
I can see Geno Smith is making up for his relatively good play in last weeks game against New England. His days over with a 5.3 QB rating with three picks on eight pass attempts.
One of the following six fouls is committed by the offense. Following the runoff, the game clock will resume again once the ball is set. The runoff can also occur if a team declines to use a timeout if it has timeouts remaining.
False start
Intentional grounding
Illegal forward pass beyond the line of scrimmage
Throwing a backwards pass out of bounds
Spiking or throwing the ball away after a down (unless after a touchdown)
Any other intentional act that causes the clock to stop
What was the penalty again? Was it false start? Or delay of game?
Was just clowning with ya. And thanks for that link on the football knowledge! Good stuff!
