Obviously there has to be a list of names of worst NFL head coaches. Greg Schiano only lasted with the Buccs for two years and was fired is one example. Rob Chunziski or whatever his name, for the Browns only lasted one year. I'm sure there's others like Steve Spagnolio.

I'm sure fans have an opinion of the worst, not sure if there is a list! Aren't we getting close to the time of the year where the hot seat is really, really hot??? I remember during Packers 15-1 season, 2 or 3 coaches were fired after the Packers came to town.

I saw Brian Urlacher on Mike & Mike and his comments about Lovie Smith were interesting, not that Lovie is doing that well for the Bucs, but who gets fired after a 10-6 season??? Lovie is better than other coaches, I'm sure.

Jay Gruden is a pretty horrible coach.... Ditto to Tressman or whatever his name is in Chicago.

I agree on Trestman, supposedly the QB whisperer, Jay has been at it 10 yrs. now and all whisperers in the world won't change his mental, gun slinger issues. I think Trestman came from the CFL, but maybe he was previously with the NFL.

In my opinion, Marvin Lewis is one of the lamest. Twelve seasons without a single playoff win. His all-time win-loss in Cincy currently hovering around .500.

To me it's unfair to dismiss guys like Jay Gruden after less than a single season. Gruden may turn out to be a bust, but it takes some time to develop a winner. Look at the hard early years of greats like Chuck Noll. I understand the game is different now with hyper free-agency, harder to cultivate long term team chemistry, etc.. but 12 years is long enough to make some kind of playoff progress. C'mon, show me a single other active head coach who can match Lewis' run of nearly 200 games coached w/zero playoff wins (?)

Lou Holtz may well be one of the worst NFL coaches ever. Spent one season with the Jets in 1976 and resigned before the final game of the season after going 3-10.

I think that, Jim Schwartz, the former head coach of the Detroit Lions, was the worst NFL head coach. Just seeing that guy on the sidelines made my skin crawl. He seemed like a real jerk. He couldn't win with talent and his teams were undisciplined. And he got into that stupid post-game altercation with Jim Harbaugh. I guess he's a defensive coordinator for the Bills now. The Bills defense is great, so I guess you could say he's doing a good coaching job. But I prefer to believe that the Bills' defensive unit was talented before he got there and didn't really need any coaching up.

That's the thing about coaching though. Coaches get credit sometimes when it's undeserved and they take the blame when things go wrong with their team. Wins and losses are really the only way to quantity good coaching, but I think there are plenty of good coaches that are just cursed with bad teams. And there are some coaches who are deemed good who are simply along for the ride and blessed with talented teams. It's really up for the players to discern who's a good coach and who isn't since none of the fans deal with the coaches on a daily basis.

Default Fire Haslett

Rich Kotite was pretty bad

I know he's not a head coach, but Jim Haslett Redskins Def Coordinator sucks

If it wasn't for his ****ty defense, RGIII and team may have had a chance to compete

Haslett was the head coach of the Saints from 2000-2005 and coached the Rams for 12 games in '08. His overall record is 47-61.
