holding a 7 pt. lead over the Colts for a while isn't good enough. Everyone knows Luck is a comeback machine
I think the Chiefs make the 6 seed over the Chargers, Broncos win out but still get the 2 seed. Colts lose in Dallas, but still take the 3 seed. Everything else I agree with
Especially the refs. It was evident that they had gotten that memo.
Ugh, why is this so hard to grasp? Because too many football games are close. Over the course of a season, taking your FGs may be the difference between an 8-8 team and an 11-5 team. The equivalent of last year's Jets vs. last year's Saints (who were just one score away from potentially going to the NFC Championship game). In fact, in the first round, the Saints scored first, going up 3-0. They had a 4th and 1 from the Eagles' 14-yard line. They ended up winning 26-24. This year they went for it on 4th and goal on early drives two weeks in a row. They lost to both the Bengals and Ravens. They'll be lucky to go 8-8 and make the playoffs at this point.
If you're a college student, why not just say "meh, not gonna study for the first exam, I can just get a C and do perfectly the rest of the semester to get up to an A?"
In the month of september maybe it's not a bad idea but now with 3 games left in the season I don't want to see my team settling for a FG when they can be playing to win and get the TD. Today while watching the Browns and Bengals game, the brown were on their first drive and had 4th and inches and the dumb coach decided to punt
This is the time of year you go for it on 4th and short
You'd be a coach who believes all that matters it the end of the game, and all that matters is the end of the season. You'd probably tell your players only to play the last 15 minutes too.

Kicking a FG to go up 3-0 depends on the situation. Now the seahawks just kicked a FG to go up 3-0 but they have a good defense and playing at home. When your team is on the road and defense is not that dominant you have to do whatever to outscore the opponent
Your logic is backwards. At home you take more chances with going for it on 4th or going for 2. On the road you play more conservatively to stay in the game as long as possible.

On the road I would want to take the crowd out the game early to control the momentum. So for example my team tonight plays the eagles which is a team they lost to 2 weeks ago. If dallas gets the ball first and is faced with a 4th and 1 on the eagles 20, i rather them go for it so they can set the tone for the game. A early 7-0 nothing lead would decrease the rowdiness of the crowd and put the pressure on the eagles offense to score a TD. If Dallas kicks a FG and goes up 3-0, that gives the eagles defense a win for preventing a TD and allows their offense to take the lead 7-3 with a TD.
So that's why on the road I would prefer to take more chances
You want to make some aggressive calls and take the crowd out of it, but you don't want to take stupid unnecessary risks. I understand your desire to play to win, not to play not to lose. That's what Flacco did in the AFCCG rematch in New England. The Ravens opened up their offense in that 2nd half. They got a turnover and immediately took a shot to the endzone for a Boldin TD, etc. But that doesn't mean leaving points on the field.
