Regarding the new rules, I think these new ideas will make the game better and more exciting. I especially like the defense can return a fumble or interception. The only problem I see is that there can be no more fakes, except if you want to go for 2 from the 15-yard line. Teams will know that you're going for 2 if you're at the 2 yard line, and usually if you only want 1 you're setting up from the 15. I like the fake kicks and passes to the end zone for 2.

That being said, I wonder how this will effect the frequency of teams going for 2 this season.

NFL moves extra point to 15-yard line for 2015 season - NFL.com

Interesting change the NFL made today. I wonder how long the extra point has been where it is. This is a historical change.

I think they are on the right track with the narrowing of the uprights. I think they should tighten them every year for the next few.

I would guess since the dawn of extra points.

I'd like to compare extra points to free throws on an and-one in basketball. I'm sure some statistics guru can figure out the percentage of free throws made in a season and find a correlating distance in football that kickers make field goals from.

The only change I can remember is moving the goal post from the goal line to the back of the end zone although I am not sure where the ball was placed, I believe it was still on the three when the goal post were on the goal line.

There has been numerous changes in the extra point from the beginning. At one time the extra point was worth more than a touchdown...

Quote:
The extra point is among the oldest parts of the game of gridiron football and dates to its soccer roots. In its earliest days, scoring a touchdown was not the primary objective. Scoring a field goal was worth 5 points, scoring a touchdown was worth 1 point, and the extra point would be worth 4. By the start of the 20th century, touchdowns had become more important. By this time, the point value for the P.A.T. kick had reduced to its current value, one-point The touchdown was now worth five. In 1912, the touchdown was increased to six.

Soccer roots? Wow. Don't let THAT get around!

And they still continue to move the goal posts on the PAT, don't they?

I like the changes! Kickers have gotten so much more stronger and accurate that it was time to put more challenge in that part of the game. I love the idea of the defense having a chance to score two points on blocks and failed 2-point conversions.
