There have been many proposals to fix the almost automatic PAT.

I say get rid of it. A touchdown is now 7 points. You can choose to go for 1 point with one scrimmage play from 4 yard line. If you make it you now have 8 points. But if you miss you lose a point thus only giving you 6 points. Otherwise skip it altogether and keep your 7 points.

Makes it more exciting.

I'd like to see the kick for the PAT be a drop kick instead of a held place kick.

Just keep it as it is.

Than reduce the TV timeouts.

From the touchdown to when the opposing team takes it's first snap there is probably 5 minutes of real time wasted.

Touchdown
PAT
Commercial
Kickoff
Commercial
First scrimmage play

Wouldn't matter how the NFL deals with the extra point, because one way or the other the sponsors will lobby to keep their TV & Radio commercials in. I doubt they'll lose revenue based on whether or not a PAT exists.

I believe the proposed after point is now moving it as follows: NFL Competition Committee: In this version of the PAT, a field-goal attempt by the scoring team would be moved back to the 15-yard line. A two-point conversion would still take place at the 2-yard line, but the defense would be able to recover the ball and score.

I like the last part about the defense able to score on PAT turnover.

Another change that should be considered is points allow on field goals...the longer the field goal the more points.

I agree but you missed the commercial after the touchdown and if there is a replay after the touchdown it could be 10 minutes.

Yep! What ever the NFL can do to make the fanatics even more nervous than ever!

I'm old enough to remember when there were far less commercials during NFL football
games. You could actually relax and think about the game. The commentators had
time to, you know, COMMENT. We were allowed to get a feel of the atmosphere.
Now, it's just terrible. Continuity and flow is hard to get a sense of. It's all rushed.
You're trying to absorb something then bang ! Here comes an offensive commercial.
Making this overabundance of interruption even worse is the new flying banners
and logos the studios are interjecting into the cutoffs. I do not need to see a flying
logo threaten to pierce my television screen. It does nothing for my excitement level.
Are you aware that NFL broadcasts in Europe have about half as many commercials ?

Concerning the PAT, keep that at 1, but make the conversion 3 points.
The 2 point conversion is not being used often because the number 2 is
not often an enviable one in football scoring. They only go for 2
when the 2 "works", which is not often because the FG is 3. So, make the conversion 3, perhaps
set its starting point back a little further, and you'll see a lot more teams go for 3 than 2.
It's also right in line with the 3 of the FG, which would work a lot better.
