When someone mentions NFL fight, I immediately think of Andre Johnson vs Finnegan because it was just them one on one in the middle of the field. Most other fights involve other players trying to hold each other back.

1. Rams at Jets, 1983, Slater v. Gastineau. Mr. Sack Dance was beating Mr. Hall of Fame Slater on every play, who got mad and went at Gastineau! Gave Rozelle the excuse to ban the sack dance, and other dances. That incident single-handedly made Pete Rozelle turn the NFL into a No Fun League!

2. Andre Johnson v. Cortland Finnegan. Everyone outside of Tennessee were extremely happy to see Finnegan get the brakes beaten outta him!

3. Chris Ward v. Lyle Alzado! Yes, Lyle was all roided.....!

Good thing I scrolled down. This is the one I remember best of all the scraps I saw in an NFL game. I was pulling for the Cowboys, but hotdog Cliff Harris went too far with his unsportmanlike conduct and Jack Lambert did something about it. And, as I remember it, the referees said play ball. Now days, Lambert would have been ejected and later fined for his vigilante justice. I think he was being a good team mate.

The best fights I saw firsthand at an NFL game were during the game between fans in the 700 level at Veterans Stadium in Philadelphia. I remember going to the Rams/Eagles game in the final week of the 1999 season and sitting in the endzone in the 700 level. At one point I looked around during a break in the action, and I didn't see any fights in my section, but I looked to my left and saw a fight in next section over and then I looked to my right and saw another fight in the other next section over. (I also remember the first time I went to an Eagles game there, in 1989, was the first time I ever saw guys peeing in the sinks. Additionally, the first time I ever attended a playoff game there, after the 1990 season, was the first time I ever remember fans doing an "a-hole, a-hole" chant, after the referees (correctly) overturned a fumble recovery by the Eagles that was returned for a touchdown.)

There was nothing like the Vet for fan mayhem.

Not a fight exactly but when packer Charles Martin slammed McMahon down in like 1986?

There seriously needs to be a better compilation on YouTube of all the packers bears fights and cheap shots.

And a good Chuck Cecil compilation.

I’ve always found on-field fights between football players silly. They’re always wrapped up in padding and helmets. Who’s going to be dumb enough to slug a guy in the helmet, anyway?
