The bottom of the AFC playoffs looks like this now:

5: Bills: 5-4

6: Jets: 5-4

7: Steelers: 5-4

8: Raiders: 4-4

The Steelers have a winnable game with the Browns and if they improve to 6-4 they'll hope back into the #5 spot for now. The Raiders host a solid Vikings team, but if they win and the Steelers win, that makes three 5-4 teams all jostling for the #6 spot.

This time of year is awesome.

Jets have dropped key tie breakers to the Raiders and Bills.

Steelers have a poor conference record.

Chiefs have won three in a row now. Keep an eye on them. That Jamal Charles fumble early in the season against the Broncos is looking huge right around now.

The top of the playoff seeding is really solidifying. The Bengals and Patriots for now have the first round byes locked up, though there's a lot of football still ahead. The Broncos seem a lock for the #3 spot, despite looking like one of the worst teams in the league the last two weeks. They're in a skid but I think they'll get it righted. the #4 spot is still hotly contested within the AFC South.

It's the Wild Card seeds and the teams just outside the bubble where things really get interesting in the AFC.

Right now it's:

5: Steelers, 6-4

6: Bills, 5-4

Outside:

7: Jets, 5-4

8: Chiefs, 4-5

9: Raiders, 4-5

10: Dolphins, 4-5

That's a pretty impressive log jam all gunning for just 2 playoff spots. Plus teams like the Chiefs and Dolphins were left for dead just a couple weeks ago.

Every week the games become a little more important. If I haven't said it yet, I'll say it now: This time of year is awesome!

The Dolphins lose the head to head tie breaker to the Bills having been swept by them. They've also lost the first game to the Jets so they have no shot of winning the head to head tie breaker over them. I think they are defintiley in the worse shape of all the 4-5 teams.

^ I agree but with 7 games remaining there is still a shot they can finish with a better record outright or get themselves into a 3-way that favors them. The latter doesn't seem as likely given the losses they've had, but a surge to a 9-7 finish while Jets and Bills go 8-8 is still a possibility.

All you need to know about the AFC playoffs, is in all likelihood Patriots and Bengals go 1,2 in the seeding. And even if you live in the heart of Cincinnati, you are kidding yourself if you think the playoff choking Bengals are going to come into Foxboro in January and come out with a W. AFC Wild Cards are completely irrelevant this year.

What happens if Bengals and Pats enter in the Playoffs Undefeated? Does that affect seeding?

It would come down to strength of victory. A very fluid and changing number but I think the Bengals would possibly benefit giving them homefield throughout.

Doesn't matter since the Bengals will choke in their first playoff game anyway.
