Thoughts on how the result of this game changes where Manning is thought of all time. If Denver wins, does it elevate Manning higher? If he loses, does it drop him....thoughts?

For the most part, he's playing with house money today. If he can orchestrate a win as a clear cut underdog, where he plays decent (no ints), it'll vault his legacy to another level, his legacy as a "leader" not just a quarterback.

If he loses, well, he wasn't expected to win, wasn't expected to even be here. It won't hurt him much at all, especially if it's a close game.

We place a disproportionately high weight on Super Bowl wins. Don't get me wrong: Super Bowl wins are an important part of why we remember QBs. But I think the number of QBs who have won multiple Super Bowls is 12. Manning as a starter in the Super Bowl will either be 2-2 or 1-3 by tonight, but when you look at it qualitatively his legacy is iron solid regardless of the outcome tonight. He is the only QB to take 2 different teams to the Super Bowl multiple times. His 4 Super Bowls represent 4 different head coaches and OCs. If the Broncos win, he will be the only QB to have led two different teams to a Super Bowl win. In my mind winning cements his legacy further, losing certainly doesn't hurt it though.

Nope, maybe for the younger generation of fans who keep harping about Eli having 2 rings and if Peyton loses he'll still only have one. The stigma attached to QBs these days, great QB during the regular season but can't win in the playoffs, is a joke to me. You can't take away his accomplishments over his career, big picture not just playoffs.

No. He's already past his prime and stayed a season too long. If he loses, no one is shocked. If he wins, he held on for one more. The past has already set his legacy in stone. One of the all-time greats. No one talks about Unitas as a Charger. No one will talk about Manning's horrid final season as a Bronco if he doesn't win.

I don't think it effects him either. At this point in his career he's way past his prime and everyone knows that the defense is the reason for Denver's success this season. If he wins then it's a cool retirement story to go out on, if he loses then it doesn't matter as he wasn't expected to win anyway. He's already all time great win or lose and my personal ranking of him wouldn't alter with either result today.

No, he's one of the best ever whether he wins or loses tonight. Certainly another win would be great for his legacy but a loss wouldn't detract or hurt it either IMO. People place way too much weight on a QB if the TEAM does/doesn't win the big game.
