we were given a football signed by 15 members of a NFL team for a fundraising auction

I am trying to figure out

1. what it could be worth
2. where to set the opening bid

I did find out that a ball with one of the signatures we have is selling for $275
so does having 14 other signatures make it worth more or less ?

Does anyone know of a good site I can go to that may give me more info
or any folks here that collects these kind of things can offer some advise

disclaimer : I am in no way trying to sell the ball here, the rest of the fundraising committee knows even less than I do about these things
so I am coming to the experts

thanks for your help

There is a site called sportscollectibles.com or something like that(they may have changed names)I think they have a link on what others have done with similar items. You could Google in sports collectible items and see what you come up with.

Thank you! Hope it all works out. Seeing that your location is Northeast florida, im guessing it was signed by the Jaguars right?

It really all depends on whose signatures are on the ball. You said that a ball with just one of the signatures is going for $275, that dose not always mean that the ball you have is a lot more valuable, but it could be. The main factor is how many "stars" names you have on the ball.

If there are 2 or more "stars" autographs on the ball, it will certainly up the value. But if there is only one star and all the rest are names that no one has ever heard of before, it could detract from some of the value.

The best thing to do is try and sell it in the market as close to where the team is as possible, of course online is always a good choice as well. Fans of the team will pay more than just autograph seekers. But it all comes down to whose names are on the ball.

mike
thanks for the info

there are at least 6 to 8 "star" names

This is going to be used at a live auction for one of the non-profits I volunteer with.

thanks again to you both I have a better idea now as to where to tell the fundraising committee were to set the opening bid
They wanted to start at $50. But after your help I am thinking a lot more than that

thanks again for helping me to raise as much money for the kids as possible

With 6 to 8 big names, you should definitely start your bid way over $50. Good luck on the auction.

If the names on the ball were all part of a winning Super Bowl team, it would really add to the value. Since you mentioned that there were 15 team members that signed it, it could really be worth a lot if that team had a good year when those 15 were part of it. Since the other ball you mentioned went for $275, and you have six to eight "star" names on it, I would consider starting at, or having a reserve of, something like one and a half to two times that figure ($400-$500), if you can guarantee authenticity.

thanks jdavid

I wish it was a SB team
but the team did have a very good year

I think at the next meeting we are going to discuss starting the bidding at $200

ok the "authenticity" thing
is having one of the players personally hand me the ball after getting it signed by the others specifically for this fundraiser enough
oh please say yes because I would have no idea how to go about getting it authenticated

p.s. lol I am glad I can ask these questions here because I went through my "limit" on sports question I can ask the hubby during the season
