Everyone outside of the world where "lobster" is pronounced "lobstah" hates Bill Belichick but he is, probably, the best coach in NFL history. As such, I've selected him over Bill Walsh and because I wasn't given the option to vote for Wayne Fontes.
I have no hatred of Belichick but went with Walsh as his offense revolutionized the game at the time. Obviously there are other coaches that I left out as I was just curious of the thought process on the two. Some coaches were before my time (i.e. Vince Lombardi) and I left out others that could be considered (i.e. Chuck Noll, and Jimmy Johnson to name a couple).

Belichick has 4 Super Bowl wins and another 2 AFC championship games. Also has had 15 straight winning seasons. Both he and Bill Walsh had hall of fame QBs, but Walsh had better supporting players such as Jerry Rice...

I was trying not to just focus on just championships. If I were to do that, there would be no conversations as the Packers have won more than any NFL team (and it's not even close...they've won 13) and Lombardi has won 5 I believe (so I would have included him in the poll). I thought Walsh and Belichick were just very unique and hence wanted to compare those two. I do agree that the supporting cast on the Niners was a step above the Patriots as they've had 5 Hall of Famers during the Walsh era. I think that's the biggest attribute of Belichick's (what he's done with the cast he's had...which has been nothing short of magnificent). Of course, Bill Walsh also retired so it's hard to say how many championships he would have won (clearly the team that won the year after he retired would have been his championship). I would also argue that Bill Belichick's Patriots have certainly used elements of the West Coast offense. And although there were probably elements Walsh borrowed from others, there was clearly nothing like it going on at the time Walsh began his coaching career with the Niners. I looked at it more from an angle of what the coach did that was unique to the game and what elements were incorporated by others, with the thought that imitation is the greatest form of flattery.
