It's a good strategy because if the score is 16-7 at the half you have the opportunity to make 23-7 after halftime. By accepting the ball first the only thing you can do is go up 7-0 in the 1st qtr with 3 qtrs left in the game. But if you can go up 23-7 that is a lot better since it's only 2 qtrs left in the game vs 3qtrs left with a 7 pt lead.

Did you just get off the phone with the man??? When you talk to him again tell him he's mistaken....

Won't be the first time....he thought Brady and the Pats should/would play for overtime in SB 36....he was wrong then too...

"When the league first gave NFL teams the option to defer their choice until the second half in 2008, only 7.8 percent of coin toss winners took the option. "
For NFL teams, deferring after winning coin toss is more than a 50-50 choice - Minnesota Vikings Blog- ESPN

"According to the Elias Sports Bureau, it is a decision he has made 48 times out of 50 since 2008, when the N.F.L. started giving teams the option to defer. "
