I'd start him next week vs. Cincinnati. Team is still in the hunt for the division AND he'll probably be back for next year just because of the more than $15 million he'll have guaranteed for next season, so can't bench him for a start before year 1 is over. However....if he's horrible again on Saturday AND they lose, than I'd start Savage week 17 vs. Tennessee. Sure, it'll be a do or die, but Osweiler had been terrible for the whole year practically and Savage had some good drives (albeit most ended in field goals) to get the win they frankly really didn't deserve, so in the "if Osweiler sucks in week 16 scenario" reward Savage with the week 17 start because if not for Savage's heroics today, this team is toast.

Why would you go back to Osweiler at this point?? Savage clearly outplayed him...

If Bill O'Brien learned anything under Belichick, the core principle of the Patriots is you play the guys that give you the best chance to win....doesn't matter the pedigree, draft position, contract status, drafted vs undrafted.....best guy plays period

Do or die why would they go back to Osweiler? Has nothing to do with with "rewarding Savage" it should have everything to do with playing the best QB....whoever that is

Because they're stuck with him, at least for another year due to the guarantees in the contract.

Plus, saying Savage outplayed him is like when they put Osweiler in for Manning last year. It happens. The backup is always the golden boy.. Until he becomes the starter. Plus.. teams don't generally prepare for the backup.. So, they often give a team a spark when they come in off the bench.

There is absolutely zero reason to go back to Osweiler at this point! O'Brien will draw this out and make it like it's a game time decision but I'm sure he isn't going back to Osweiler...

This is the thing, yes, maybe it isn't fair to say that Savage outplayed him based on just one game, but the reality is there are 14 weeks of Brock Osweiler looking absolutely horrid to this point. Not 2 weeks, not 5 weeks, there's 14. He hasn't played a lights out game all year, in none of "his" seven victories can you say HE carried them to victory, he has 16 picks in 14 games. They have an absolute elite talent at wide out in Hopkins, and only broke 80 yards once this year with Brock throwing him the ball. Savage found him for 87 yesterday, there's 14 weeks of Brock showing he can't get the ball to his biggest playmaker...

Osweiler probably should have been benched weeks ago. Benching him and not going back to him isn't so much a "reward" to Tom Savage, but a declaration based on what Brock Osweiler has shown you. The Texans know they aren't a true contender with Osweiler. And if the goal is to win the whole thing you have to put yourself in the best position to win. They have an elite WR1, one of the best defenses in the league without Watt playing, a potential game breaking RB. It's not like this team doesn't have pieces to make a run. They need a QB to move the ball. You know Osweiler can't do it. Ride Savage on the way out, and win or lose, if he plays well, he's your guy going into next year...

Houston is a competent QB away from being a Super Bowl contender. Their defense is better than the Raiders and Chiefs, they have more offensive skill than the Chiefs, etc. The Patriots are the only team ahead of the pack in the AFC. Play to win the whole thing and put yourself in the best position to win!

**** Brock Osweiler and his big-ass contract!

I'd start Savage next week. Since following Brock at Arizona State and the Broncos' fascination with him in the draft and keeping him behind Peyton for about three years, I never got what is so special with him. The only thing he's done is beat the Colts twice & Lions at home this year.

Let's be honest, if the Texans get into the playoffs they're a one and done again with Brock starting. Savage was a special prospect coming out of Pittsburgh, saved their season yesterday and could be the QB with intangibles to make this team special. Let's say they make the playoffs and draw KC at home in RD 1 and they're down 23-13 at the start of the 4th quarter. Which guy do you have more confidence in?

Only move that may have been worse was trading a first round pick for Bradford.

The Bradford move was essential with the short playoff window but a terrible value move. At least with Osweiler, it's just the billionaire owner that eats the guaranteed $ if Savage works out.
