NFL Coach GOATS: Greatest of All Time. Who do you think.

The ones that I can come up with from the top of my head are: Tom Landry, Bill Belichick, John Madden, Don Shula, Mike Ditka, Chuck Noll, and especially Vince Lombardi. Other honors include Mike Holmgren, Bill Parcells, and Joe Gibbs.

Lovie Smith..

He took a Rex Grossman QBed team to, and nearly won the Super Bowl.

Deserves to be in the HoF just for that. Greatest ever, just due to that fact.

^^ I never should have put Lovie Smith as one of the worst coaches and he should be in the Hall of Fame for taking the Bears to the Super Bowl.

Thanks for starting this Jonathan.

Since you didn't specify I will say Buddy Ryan as Defensive Coordinator. But I know we're talking about Head Coaches.

I like Lovie, and think he got screwed over both with the Bears and Bucs.

But.. This question is even harder than the QB question in ways. A great coach can only do so much.

Dennis Green was a great coach at Minnesota.. Not so much at Arizona.

Jeff Fisher looked like a great coach the first 5-6 years with the Titans.

gotta add Bill Walsh..

i wouldn't put Madden (too short of a career) nor Ditka (one hit wonder, otherwise just ok) on my list..

I would add Bud Grant as well. Probably one of the most underrated coaches of all time.. HE was VERY GOOD!

When I say coaches, I meant HEAD coaches.

I think I might have forgotten about to add Curly Lambeau and Bud Grant. After Grant retired, Les Steckel was the Vikings next head coach, he was horrible. After Vikings fired Steckel, Grant returned one more year to fix the mess for the Vikings.
