Not since 1983 have the Chiefs drafted a 1st round QB. The Chiefs traded up from 27 to 10 and picked Pat Mahomes from Texas Tech. He will sit and learn behind Smith for at least a year. As a long suffering original Chiefs fan I'm thrilled. Thank you John Dorsey and Andy Reid.

The Chiefs seem to have drafted well in recent years but this is a bit of a gamble given what the Chiefs paid to get him. The upside is definitely there if they can develop him, though. And with Smith under contract for two more years they have the luxury of not rushing him into it.
