Will the average height of the NFL get taller and taller?
Taller people can throw harder correct? And should be able to take tackles better. Plus they can see over the lineman.
There are so many college basketball players that dont make it to NBA. Pro basketball rosters are small. I am sure some of them also played football, and possibly QB, so why not more of them taking a crack at QB starting in college.
Different rules for the NBA than NFL. The NBA has had young players, 17 and I think you would be hard pressed to find even a 19 year old in the NFL. Without being insulting, QB position isn't easy, and I would think requires more studying, learning everything about the game, compared to some positions in other sports.
suan is right, tall doesnt mean successful in the NFL. yes it is easier to see over the line if you are 6'5", but being taller doesnt mean you can throw harder or better for that matter. you still have to have goo mechanics and a strong arm.
you also need to know the offense, how to read defenses, know how your players are going to react in certain situations, etc. you also need to know how the other teams defensive players are going to react in certain situations.

A certain minimum height seems to matter - there are very few starting QBs in the NFL under 6'2". Yes, there are a few. But not many. However, it seems that once a player hits the threshold of 6'2" or 6'3", additional inches no longer matter.
Taller also means one of two things:
Heavier (and thereby slower, plus goes down harder), or
Particularly thin (and thereby more fragile)

Now this is just plain silly.
If a simple physical attribute was so all-important, then Renaldo Nehemiah (former world record holder in the 110m hurdles, signed by the 49ers in the 1980s) would have been a great wide receiver. He wasn't. And Herb Washington (former world class sprinter, signed by the Athletics in the 1970s) would have been a great base-stealer. He wasn't.

very true. look at the best sprinters in th world and you ill find that most of them dont get off the line very well, but they end up in front because from 50 feet out they start get into their stride. a wide receiver or base stealer cant do that. they have to get off the line hard if they are going to be successful.
