The irrepressible "CAPTAIN WHO?!!?" Drafted by the Pack, dumped by Lombardi, picked up by Baltimore where he became an instant Special Teams hero and even caught some clutch passes as a LE. RIP Hawk and thanks for the memories.

And speaking of Lombardi, RIP "Dapper" Dan Currie, part of an early '60s excellent LB crew that also included Ray Nitschke and Bill Forrester.

Hawkins had a lot of input on NFL Films regarding the early days of the Baltimore Colts. The stories he would tell of some of the um, "different" players, such as Bill Pellington and Bert Rechichar were absolutely classic. Nearly a decade ago he penned an autobiography--Its My Story (and I'm sticking to it.) A great read-I still have that book.

He was sort of a "jack of all trades" kind of back. If memory serves, he literally begged Don Shula to bring him back to the Colts organization after spending two years with the Atlanta Falcons as he went to Atlanta in the 1966 expansion draft.

I too recall his auto-bio. His exploits around town as reported in The Sun were entertaining too.

One obit reported that during his final hospital stay, he told his wife how good she looked and asked if she wanted to get into bed with him.
