The Colts are considered a playoff contender. The Browns always play the Bengals pretty tough. I think the Bengals will still be there down the stretch, and Marvin Lewis will be fine. Heck, they didn't give up on him when they were finishing below .500 for many years, I doubt they will now. He has definitely turned them around.
The first 8 years Marvin Lewis coached the Bengals, he had as many double digit loss seasons as he did playoff appearances, and did not win any playoff games.
If 8 years of glorified mediocrity were not enough to cost him his job; I don't see how singling out two games in a season his team is above .500 would be.

Marvin ain't no where close to the hot seat. Being beaten bad by a team that may have the best QB in football and a division rival who is above .500 is hardly calls for termination when the team is still above .500 and has a great chance at playing in January.
Seriously..
Missing the playoffs multiple years........
CitizenK, good topic. I've been wondering this for years. Coach Lewis is 12 years in, without a single playoff win. The modern NFL is a win-now league,.. you see young quarterbacks on incredibly short leashes, legends getting dealt away in the still-productive twilights of their careers, etc..
But Marvin Lewis remains the Teflon Don in Cincinnati..
After 12 years, he's barely above .500 (95-88). Is there any NFL head coach, anywhere close to Lewis in terms of same-team tenure, with NO playoff wins (?).. lame.

Bruce Arians goes to Arizona and gets that group scary!
Marvin's a good coach. He just may not be good enough. Cincinnati's not the most stable football organization from the luxury box to the field, so managing that team year-in and year-out is a challenge. To be fair, Lewis was a Carson Palmer knee injury away from taking his team to the 2nd round of the AFC playoffs and who knows, maybe they and not Pittsburgh beats Indy en route to a Super Bowl appearance. It took the Bengals a long time to recover from that one event, and now they're consistently competitive again. I'd say Lewis is on the hot seat when the team stops competing - then it's over.

Awww come on...........are we still riding that horse???? How long ago was that??? Palmer been with 2 teams since then! Bengals have drafted high for years! If the scouts cant pick talent, whose fault is that for hiring good scouts??
Its been a looooong time now.
I think Lewis might be a better assistant, at this point.
