I posted this in another thread this morning, I think in Arizona, but I have some football friends on facebook who watched a couple of these games over the weekend and they liked it. Said these players were out there like they were in high school, not afraid to hit tackle hard.

My other half and I picked the Memphis Express as our team about a month ago. We were all excited to tune in yesterday. I'm not sure we picked so wisely.

That said, we enjoyed watching post Super Bowl football.

What makes the AAF different is that they are a minor development league and are not making any airs about being the big's. So that will keep the player salaries in check but still the players earn more than your average middle class American, Also there should be no push to do what President Trump did with the USFL back in the day and think that they are taking on the NFL head to head in the fall.

As a sport nobody expects them to be as good as the NFL or even the old USFL or AFL. Just better than say an Alabama versus New Mexico State blow out.

About the biggest surprise from opening weekend was "the hit". I can't see that remaining legal especially with the league being a NFL minor's program. It might be used like watching NFL Films and all of the hits by hall of famers which are now illegal

Well, I hope for a BIT better than that.

I caught parts of several games.. The Atlanta team looked awful. How much of that was due to the loss of Brad Childress and Michael Vick so close to the start of the season, or.. Did Childress and Vick see the writing on the wall and want to keep their names off it?

The offenses, for the most part, looked pretty good. Sharp route running.. There was discipline there, which was obviously missing from the XFL, which, honestly, is the only thing we really have to compare this to.

Defenses were OK.. There were multiple blown coverages. Hopefully that gets better. And, I'm just talking overall.. There were multiple interceptions.. Lots of tipped balls from what I saw.

The stands.. The Orlando game looked decent.. Birmingham was so-so.. Anyone notice or see attendance numbers?

Ok, here's what I found..

San Diego - 27,857
Orlando - 20,191
Birmingham - 17,039
Arizona - 11,751

I am enjoying the league so far. Pretty decent football. Games get over faster than the NFL.

I would have liked to see they cut the game clock down even further, to 30 seconds and also cut 3 minutes off the quarters. So you would have 4, 12 minute quarters with a 30 second game clock.

Digging up some numbers.. San Diego had announced attendance of 20k, folks are saying people there looked to be about half of that.

Memphis had the low point of the week at 11,980

San Antonio was 29k

Birmingham over 17k

The average still seems to be right around 20k, which isn't bad.. However, it's questionable how many of those tickets are 'comp' tickets.

Ticket prices are very reasonable. Looks like right at about $20.
