I didn't get to see the article, but on redskins radio station this morning, the hosts read a few quotes from Troy Aikman about RG3's rookie year. somewhat critical of Robert, saying he needs to become a better pocket passer (which is true somewhat but he's already pretty good in the pocket), and several other random criticisms or RG3.

I guess some Redskins stat junky got annoyed by Troy Aikman's negative comments and did some digging. Turns out RG3, in his rookie year, had a better season than Troy Aikman did his superbowl year. LOL!

Aikman's Superbowl year compared to RGIII's rookie year:

1992 – Aikman -3,445yds, 215ypg, 23TD, 14INT 63.8%comp
2012 – Griffin – 3200yds, 213ypg’ 20TD, 5INT 65.6%comp

A better season?! really? So how do you define a better season?
Fewer INTs and a better completion percentage is better than a SUPER BOWL RING and MVP! Really?

I get fans not wanting to hear criticism of their favorite player especially from an ex player from a rival team but geez. Don't use useless stats as a comparison, use things like RGIIIs mobility and rushing yards compared to Aikman. Compare RGIIIs successful rookie campaign to Aikman's unsuccessful rookie campaign... don't try to use Aikman's Super Bowl MVP year as a comparison, its just silly. Aikman (and the Cowboys) won the Super Bowl and the Super Bowl MVP so nothing short of that even compares..

hey man, don't shoot the messenger LOL

a better season as far as comparing individual stats for a season. Aikman had two hall of fame members on his team in emmit smith and michael irvin, so there's no fair comparison between the success of their teams. talent level is heavily in aikman's favor

again, just thought it was funny that Aikman was somewhat critical of RG3's rookie season, when Griffin had pretty identical numbers to the season in which Aikman won a superbowl. oh well...nevermind i guess.

It's official: Robert Griffin III has been cleared by doctors and will start for the season opener against the Eagles.

Good news for the Redskins! I can't wait for Week 2 when they come to Lambeau, should be a great game!

Hey Susan. Its football season!

I'm pretty worried about the Packers. the biggest weak spot on either side of the ball for Washington is our young secondary. Rodgers might pick us apart. I can see that game being a shootout, with a final score of 35-30.

Just depends, last year it took him awhile to get rolling and this year Nelson and Cobb have been out so they haven't practiced together. Protection for Aaron is key, Oline isn't real steady. Bulaga is out, Sitton and Lang switched places, everything seems to be a work in progress.

First game against the 49ers will tell a great deal, maybe more than Pack fans want to know and Redskins will be watching it with great interest, I'm sure.

Keep your eyes on the Redskins defense this year... My prediction is that they'll be a top 10 defense this year! Book it...

I'm a diehard Cowboys (and Aikman - at least as a player, not so much as an analyst) fan, but we really need to move past this obsession with "Super Bowl outweighs absolutely anything and everything, period." It doesn't. Football's a team game; it always has been, and it always will be. Every once in a while an extraordinary player (usually QB) can "carry" a team for a short period, but that's very rare. Trent Dilfer is a Super Bowl winner, is he a great quarterback? What about the other barely competent guys who've won rings? Is Dan Marino not one of the game's greats because he never won a ring?

We've all been brainwashed by the media that Super Bowls trump everything when we're making individual comparisons, as if team success is the best way to judge an individual's performance. That may well work in basketball, where one individual can and sometimes does carry a team, but not for football. If Adrian Peterson puts up 2,500 yards and 30 TDs next year but the Vikings implode and go 3-13, does that mean AD's season wasn't as good as, say, Terrell Davis' 1997 season (1,750 yards and 15 TDs, but a Super Bowl MVP)?

Almost that time... Excited to see what they do with RG3. I hope they have him throw more rather than run. I'm over the read option!
