Anybody know why Mike Shanahan is so heavily sought after. Since Elway left, this coach, who at best was average, hasnt won anthing has he? We had a different coach this year and he also won 8 games, and thats with players that hate him I guess. Someone explain this to me, and tell me if YOU want MS back?

Shanahan is a great, great coach. His personnel management is what sucks. After we won the Super Bowls, Pat Bowlen basically kept increasing Shanahan's control of the team until there were simply no checks and balances there.
Mike will probably find success elsewhere as long as his next team has some of those checks and balances in place, along with a good GM.

People, my apologies for being offline the last couple days. Um, I have had some problems with people getting into a *iss*ng contest with fans of other teams on other team threads. I do NOT want that happening here-period!
Fans of other clubs have the right to be treated with respect. I don't have a lot of use for posters who contribute nothing but snarky one liners, but I put up with them, to a certain point.Others who have a good general knowledge of the game, it's history, it's rivalries have just as much right to post HERE as ANYWHERE!
Thank you.

Bosco55David is absolutely right. When Mike Shanhan was hired in 1995 one of the conditions of his hiring is that he would be in full control of all football operations. In fact, in Mr. Bowlen's press conference that is EXACTLY what was said on Mr. Bowlen's behalf.
During his first few years, he was never questioned involving personnel matters-NEVER! And in those first few years, he made some great personnel moves that absolutely fell into place. Here are a few players for ya; Alfred Williams, Neil Smith, Keith Traylor, Bill Romanowski, Glenn Cadrez, Darrien Gordon, Howard Griffith, Eddie McCaffrey, Harry Swaine, Bubby Brister, Derek Loville, Willie Green, Mark Schlereth, Ray Crockett, Vaughn Hebron are the free agents (am sure I left out a few). Those players could not have been a better fit regarding what we needed at the time.
I wish those decisions could always work out that way. Certainly Shanahan would feel that way. Then there are the ones that were busts; Daryle Gardner, Dale Carter, Sam Adams, Leon Lett, Chester McGlockton, Simeon Rice, Dre Bly, and others.
I still have preferred building through the draft, although without a doubt the "get well quick" philosophy certainly served the Broncos well during their Super Bowl years of the late 90's, there is no denying that.
And in the last couple years of Shanahan's reign, the personnel decisions were not working out and as a result of that, the seasons weren't as well. Pat Bowlen asked Mike Shanahan to relinquish the front office role and concentrate on just being head coach. Shanahan said no. And it cost him.

It seems like Mcdaniels will go to any length in his coaching decisions to amplify the performance of 'his' guys to make sure we as fans think he made the right decisions. 5/6 Bronco probowlers are 'shanny' guys though.

Ticky 909 makes a couple good points here. The offensive line needs to be addressed in a big way this off season. At the start of this season Ben Hamilton started out ok. Something happened a few weeks later, keep in mind a couple years ago he sat out the entire season because of concussion problems. Yep, the entire season! To say the least, I think Ben's play was tentative, and he was getting beat off the line. Center Casey Wiegman had a great year last year to replace the best center the Broncos ever had, Tom Nalen. The last several games he has been getting pushed back as well. And as Ticky and Bosco55david has pointed out, we are flat out missing Ryan Harris.

McDaniels/Bowlen blocked Shanahan from interviewing running backs coach Bobby Turner, basically ensuring that Turner does not leave the team. As most of you probably know, Turner is regarded as one of if not the best running back coaches in the league, so this is a very good move for our team.

On the flip side, offensive line coach Rick Dennison will likely be leaving to join either Shanahan or Gary Kubiak in Houston. Dennison is a good man who has dedicated alot of years to the Broncos but he is a zone blocking coach and thus the proverbial square peg in a round hole, making him expendable.

Mike Nolan is out in Denver, expected to join the Dolphins staff.
Word has it that he wanted to revert back to his read and react defense that he had previously run in San Fran, Baltimore and Washington. McDaniels is going to run the more aggressive, attacking defense that the Patriots run.

Yes Bosco55David has got it! Just came on the tube on local news here. I'm sad to see him leave, according to the story on my end it was a mutual decision with both parties.

So what's this I hear about Mike Nolan being gone?
That's just perfect.
Josh and.Mike parted ways.
So the Broncos just worse and some other team is about to get better.

Been kind of quiet regarding any news with the Broncos, so I thought I would catch up here.
This coming weekend is when the HOF selection committee makes their picks for the 2010 class. Two Broncos are involved here, Shannon Sharpe and Floyd Little. This is Shannon's second year of eligibility. With Floyd, he is paired up with Dick LeBeau and only one person will be chosen as that is how the selection process works for veterans who did not make it through the usual process.
From what I remember the committee will make the announcement this Saturday. There has been some good articles on the Broncos in the online Post sports section and there is an excellent, if sad, article on Floyd. It is from Sunday's Post, written by Mark Kizla.
