NFL player pulled over outside hospital while rushing to be with dying relative | News for Dallas, Texas | Dallas Morning News | Breaking News for Dallas-Fort Worth | Dallas Morning News (http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/localnews/stories/032609dnmetcopstop.3e9c080.html - broken link)

Quote:
Hospital security guards arrived and told Powell that the Moatses' relative really was upstairs dying.

Powell spent several minutes inside his squad car, in part to check Moats for outstanding warrants. He found none.
This is sad and very disturbing. This officer should be fired, no exception.

He should be taken off the street and transfered to the police impound lot.

"The Dallas Police Department confirmed Thursday that an officer drew a gun on NFL running back Ryan Moats and his wife after he stopped them to give them a ticket even as they begged to hurry to the bedside of their dying mother."

Lets hope one of them was adopted. Incest is so wrong.

You guys have no idea how many people use the "i'm rushing to the hospital to visit a dying friend/relative" excuse to try to avoid a ticket. I'm not surprised the cop didn't believe him. They have heard every excuse in the book.

^ Anyone with half a brain and common sense would have recognized that there was some type of emergency. I've been in a similar position - and the police escorted me to the hospital. Hopefully, this guy will be fired.

The story was they were very close to the hospital. The cop could have escorted them to the hospital if they were that close and if they were lying then blast them with tickets. But, to pull a gun out over a red light runner is ridiculous. If the cop can't handle that then he should be checking cars in at the lot or make golf balls for a living but not pulling people over for sure.

Here's the link to the whole video. About 8 mins in, the hospital staff came out and informed the officer that there was a code blue on the MIL. The officer could easily have allowed him to entered the hospital and left the ticket on the windshield. He was simply being an azz.

I guess it depends how they were behaving when the cop stopped them. If Moats jumped out of his car screaming and yelling, I can believe the cop might pull his gun. If they were arrogant, cussing, behaving badly, you can't blame the cop.

Thanks for the vid.

Excuse me - Moats and wife totally ignored the cop/lights/stop sign(s).

His attitude/behavior was poor. He was argumentative, combative and aggressive.
