What do you people think? I think it a horribly racist nickname for a sports team. Im sure if a team was called the Atlanta blackskins, or the San Francisco yellowskins, or the North Dakota crackers...people would be freaking out. Anyways....just my opinion.

No. When a huge majority of Native Americans do not find it offensive (something like 90% dont have a problem with it), then it is not offensive.

Native Americans do not have red skin like this guy

I'm tall, and I find the G-Men's name offensive.

Personally, the name "Redskins" has always been associated with the team in DC. I've never referred to the Native American (or whatever we call them now - they're Indians to me) as "redskin", so it's just another ticky-tack claim from a group of whiners, imo.

True fact: the Redskins were the last team to employ a black player

Imagine if they called a team the "Brownskins", or better yet the "Blackskins", we would call it racist. I know they've been the Redskins as long as I've been living and it's an old time franchise, but that has to be one of the most ridiculous team names in sports history. If they can get a high school to change its mascot to no longer be the "Satans" they definitely have to change the mascot of a professional football team who's viewed on a much larger scale.

I'm partly Native American bloodline (Cherokee) and i think the name is not really that offensive. I absolutely hate their jerseys and would want them to change their name and colors only because seeing everyone out in DC and Northern Virginia with them ugly jerseys makes my eyes burn.

I understand that Minnesota Norweigians are up in arms about the Minnesota Vikings name too.

Nationally, people of Irish descent may soon start a lawsuit against Notre Dame since the mascot name "Fighting Irish" denotes that their race is aggressive and mean when everyone knows they're really just pussycats.

Seriously. I don't look upon the name Redskins as being nearly as demeaning as that ridiculous tomahawk chop while blurting out that phony indian war song as done by both the Atlanta Braves and the Florida Seminoles. If I were indian, this would definitely offend me.
