would the extension of the NFL season make records meaningless? (draft, preseason)

if they extend the season to 19 games, we would probably have a 2000 yard rusher every year. the list of elite names on the 2000 yard rushing would no longer be as elite. also, with 3 extra games, we can kiss goodbye the all time records as well. I think this is kind of unfair to the retired players who hold these records. imagine if peyton, sanders, or smith had 19 games to put up numbers. this is a bad idea, and one of the reasons I can't stand the NFL.
When the NFL season was 14 games in the 60's you had guys like Jim brown who rushed for 1863 yards. So it's happened in the past where the longer season has given guys like Peyton, Sanders and Smith more games to get their records.
I do agree with you though, I do not like adding more games onto the season.

I agree. just throwing more games in there to make a couple extra bucks is why I can't stand the league. I mean, it's like if they extended the baseball season to 200 games. 70 homeruns would happen every season, especially with how much those guys juice.

Having 4 preseason games is stupid. That's a 1/4 of the season. 1 or 2 is more than enough.
It is dumb, the starters play for maybe a couple of series in the 4th game then it's just a practice. 2 game would be enough to get the reps you need to get the season going.

They would be idiotic to extend the season any more. The 16 game season is fine, in fact, I would rather see it go back to 14 games than expand. Dont forget, the NFL only played 12 games a year through 1960 ( the AFL played 14 in their first season of 1960) and then both the NFL, the AFL, and the merged league played 14 games from 1961 through 1977, until the 16 game schedule started in 1978.
As a football fan, I wouldn't mind seeing the season last as long as the NBA. But in reality, that's not safe for the players. Adding more games might reach a point of diminishing returns.
While extra games would also have an unintended consequence of altering current records, that's not as important to football players as it is baseball players.
I say either make the last two pre-season games count as regular season games, or leave it alone.

I say leave the season at 16 games. The 4 pre-season games bug me. I understand playing the rookies or new draft choices to see what they can do, but when they put in key players, they risk being injured in a pre-season game that doesn't even count. That irritates the h*ll out of me.
