We all got to witness a great NFC Championship game between two awesome teams. Favre made some errors in judgement, but so did a lot of other players. Pretty damn gritty for a 40-year-old to get blasted 13 times and still keep playing....

If you ask me, chucking a pick while rolling out and throwing across to the middle of the field when there was room to scramble for at least eight yards (with a timeout remaining) was the critical error. The 12 men penalty was merely stupid.

Last edited by jfre81; 01-25-2010 at 03:35 PM.. Reason: years -> yards, although Brett will probably debate retirement for at least eight years. That's what I was thinking of.

It was indeed. In his post game presser he even commented on not knowing how many yards he needed to give Longwell a comfortable shot at ending it. Maybe it's just me, but should that not have been something on his to-do list prior to running that play? My jaw just dropped when he made that comment.

That's Brett Favre football. Lots of jaw dropping great plays mixed with mind numbing interceptions. It's been that way since he's been in the NFL.

For a supposedly elite quarterback, he sure throws alot of picks in game deciding situations.

It has a bit to do with why he's got only one Super Bowl ring to show for his many playoff appearances.

He's a great quarterback to be sure, among of the greatest of all time even. And hey, he's got one more ring than Dan Marino. Then again, that's because the Dolphins never put together a great team around him like Favre had with the '96 Pack.

How can that be the critical error when the penalty is what took them out of FG range? Favre had three options - run the ball, force the pass, or throw it away. None of those options would have led to a FG. I watched the replay multiple times last night and there were 4 Saints relatively close to Favre and when a QB slides, the ball gets spotted at the start of the slide. As banged up as he was, he wasnt making it very far. The interception was irrelevant. The only thing that would have made it relevant is if it was ran back for a TD and it was not.

Super Bowl wins have nothing to do with how great a QB is and Dan Marino proves that. Teams win Super Bowls, not players. I hate when people use that as a measuring stick for QBs.

Throwing a pick in that situation is a critical error no matter how you slice it.
