It's shocking I know, but I've heard that there are people who don't know anything about football but then enjoy the commercials and halftime shows. Maybe the league is catering to those people? Blasphemy!

I think that people also would rather see actual musicians with talent than the latest tone-deaf, pitch-correcting pop twit.
In 2003 there was a huge benefit show in Toronto for SARS. I think Justin Timberflake was sandwiched in between AC/DC and the Rolling Stones. He was (plastic) bottled all through his set!
Make no mistake - some of these "old-timers' (Springsteen, the Who) can still get out there and blast away.
Yeah, half time shows have been horrible since the Janet and Justin thing. I now talk during half time which is something I never used to do but it's so uneventful to me.
I was simply relieved that Townsend and Daltry didn't have any "wardrobe" misfunctions.
