Wow, great idea, love all the pics! I still like the older, traditional stadiums, rather than all the newer, high tech ones! I remember going by Soldier Field after the last redo and thought it looked like a space ship! Just my thought, I know buildings don't last forever, handling thousands of people have to be upgraded.

JFK in Philly (Along with the Spectrum and VET) all now gone though with replacements
I believe that JFK was at one time the largest stadium in the country - this image has the US portion of the Live Aid concert back in 1985 I believe (click on link to see three now gone dinosaurs JFK, Spectrum and VET) JFK hosted the Eagles (think only a few), numerous Army Navy games and the USFL Philadelphia Stars among others)

Nothing brings back great memories of my childhood than the Vet...from watching some dreadful Phillies teams there in the 80s and 90s (with the exception of 93) and the Eagles from the Buddy Ryan era on....good times. The only stadium with its own court.

I remember being at the last Browns game at that old stadium before Modell moved the team to Baltimore, and I took my seat with me.

The new Cleveland Browns Stadium is nice, but still doesn't quite have that party atmosphere, and 12th man presence that the Old Municipal Stadium had. Perhaps, now with Holmgren and Tom Heckert leading the way, happy days with our football team will be coming again soon.
Oh yes!

The last game at Metropolitan Stadium in Bloomington was in 1981.

I'm sure other people have noticed this too, but ever notice how frequently in the 1970s and early 1980s people would rush the field at a pro sports event after the home team won a big game, a stadium was closed down, a team left a city, a team had a wacky promotion (i.e. 10 cent beer night, Disco Demolition Night), etc? You look at video clips of so many games from that era - Hank Aaron's 715th home run, Chris Chambliss' walk-off HR to win the AL pennant for the Yankees in 1976, the closing of Metropolitan Stadium, to name three - and people would either jump on the field during the game or thousands upon thousands of people rushed the field at the end of the game. That had to be scary for all the players, coaches/managers, officials/referees/umpires, and everyone else who was on the field as part of the game.
