Mr. Coffee 12 Cup Maker

This simple coffee maker has been a favorite of my husband's for as long as I can remember. About every three years we purchase another, and our current one was purchased last fall of 2009. The Mr. Coffee 12 Cup Coffee Maker has a glass decanter, and an off and on indicator light that reminds you that the pot is still on, helping you not to burn up the bottom of the decanter. One of the best features of this coffee maker is the ability to pause the brewing process when some of the coffee is ready and you are too anxious to wait until the entire pot brews to get your cup of joe.
The removable filter basket comes out easily to clean as does the lid of the decanter. If you accidentally break the glass decanter the Mr. Coffee website has replacements available which can be a lot cheaper than scraping the entire brewing system to get a new coffee maker.
The only negative thing to me would be that this particular model is not a programmable one. However I am not a coffee drinker and my husband doesn't really care to purchase a more costly model that will do this. The retail price for this coffee maker is around $20 dollars but sometimes can be found for less money. This coffee maker does everything a standard one will do but is definitely a no frills model.
Using the correct filter is important for your coffee to taste like it should. If you use a filter that is not made for this particular model, it may collapse and cause coffee grounds to get into the water. This model takes a basket filter that can found just about anywhere that sells coffee and coffee supplies. Also important to note, is to buy the correct size of filter. If your model is a 12 cup maker like the one talked about here, purchase only the 12 cup size filters, even if you are making less cups of coffee.
Regular cleaning is necessary for the coffee maker to work properly. About once or twice a year, it is important to unplug the coffee maker and take apart all the components for a thorough cleaning. To clean the water unit, run some white vinegar through a cycle just as if you were making a pot of coffee. This is needed to remove minerals that deposit themselves inside of the unit. This process is especially important if you have hard water in your home.
