My husband and I love wine, and started quite a nice collection. So, we decided that we needed a cellar, to keep them at the right temperature and humidity, and to be able to age some particularly good reds, which are not going to come to their best until few years from now. After some research, we opted for Le Cache European Country 2400 Wine Cellar. We did not have a room for a proper cellar, so we had to be satisfied with a fridge-type cellar, which had to fit in the living room.
The cabinet is made of Cherry wood, with crown and base molding and hand-carved trim. It has beautiful French doors, with security lock and double pane UV protective glass. It is pretty large: 88"H x 44"W x 31" D, and it has digital temperature display and control and top-vent exhaust.
The security lock is particularly important if you have teenagers at home, who do not realize that some of those bottles are pretty expensive, and who are not to be trusted around unsupervised alcohol.
The only downside to this really lovely piece of furniture is that it has only one temperature. So, my whites and reds have to share room, when they in reality require very different conditions. The mistake was due to our poorly done research, and not the fault of the manufacturers. It would have been nice if they have mentioned on their website that there was only one temperature, but it was our responsibility to check. I learned later that there are cellars that are sold as cabinets with two fridges sold together, which you can adjust as you like. But, since we paid $4,799.00 plus $500 for shipping,at the Wine Enthusiast, for our beautiful cellar, we will have to cope the best we can, or maybe just stick to the reds, which we prefer anyway.
