The Roper RS25AEXLQ (25.4 cu. ft.) Side by Side Refrigerator

Rating: 3 out of 5
  • Currently 3.0/5.0

The Roper RS25AEXLQ (25.4 cu. ft.) Side by Side Refrigerator is an attractive and decently priced family-friendly refrigerator. With a capacity of 25.4 cu. ft., The Roper RS25AEXLQ appears at first glance to have a competitive edge on the refrigerator market given its stylish appearance which is graced by clean lines and rounded edges. It also has a manageable price, between $950-$1200 depending on the location. Another attraction was its availability; most home improvement stores carry it in stock so it is usually available for quick delivery and installation. It also has a wide variety of attractive features, some of which work as advertised, while others leave a bit to be desired.

As advertised, the backlit slide temperature controls offer quick and easy cooling adjustments, the PUR water filtration system, which was a definite selling point, removes impurities just as it is supposed to and even has a filter indicator light to let you know when the filter needs to be changed. The crisper is humidity controlled and really does seem to keep produce fresher longer. There are several nifty compartments for snacks and dairy products, the three-gallon door bins are roomy and can conveniently hold containers the size of a gallon jug with no problem and the small spotlight on the water spigot comes in handy in preventing spills, making sure that the water goes into the glass and not onto the floor.

Unfortunately, not all the features work as advertised. The in-door ice dispenser tends to be a bit slow producing the promised ice, the two adjustable SpillGuard shelves are a bit flimsy and are prone to cracking if too much weight is placed near the front, especially if corresponding weight is not "holding down" the back part of the shelf. The adaptive defroster element which is supposed to help reduce internal moisture and help eliminate freezer burn does not always work as it should, resulting in occasional necessary manual defrosting and the overall ambient noise of the refrigerator is loud enough to startle sleeping babies and small animals.

In short, if you can get a good deal on the Roper RS25AEXLQ (25.4 cu. ft.) Side by Side Refrigerator, it is worth the money, but if you have to pay full price, you may be better off purchasing a different brand.
