Honeywell 50250 99.97% Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier
Rating: 4 out of 5
I bought this air purifier because of my son's increasingly awful allergies. He used to have a minor problem with our indoor dogs, but now his eyes water and he sneezes the moment he walks into the living room. We couldn't get rid of the dogs, so we had to find a solution. When obsessive vacuuming didn't do the trick, I decided to purchase an air purifier.
I am very pleased with this air purifier. We run it on the lowest setting and it works wonderfully. Even with our two dogs (a border terrier and a hounds mutt) in the room for hours every day, my son hardly has any problem, even when he sits on the furniture.
Unlike some filters, it's easy to maintain because it doesn't require a replacement HEPA filter or changing out of other parts. It also saves on money, because HEPA filters, like the one that comes with this unit, are very expensive. I have had to change the pre-filters a few times (every five months or so), but they are inexpensive and very easy to switch out.
My only real problem with air purifier is that it's quite loud at the highest setting. It's definitely noticeable at the lowest setting (which we use most often) but because of the noise that comes with kids and pets, it isn't too much of a problem. Another small issue is that the unit, while not a hulking giant of machinery, isn't small either. It isn't the kind of thing that would sit on a table unnoticed.
Really nice air purifiers are also very expensive. For the money, this is a great machine. It works well, even in large rooms, is dependable, sturdy, and requires minimum maintenance. The permanent HEPA filter is a great addition which will save hassle and money in the long term.
