My dad actually got me into using paper shredders, as he shreds all his old documents. I guess he is afraid of someone going through his garbage and using any of his information for identity theft, and he had me paranoid about it as well. When I started to do a lot of contract work that involved a lot of documents and paper work, I bought one as well.
I actually paid way more for this paper shredder then I had originally planned, but I figured if I spent a little more, it would last longer. As far as paper shredders go, it's not really noisy. I usually only feed it a few sheets at a time, but it can take around 10 or so without much of a problem. And it's slightly faster than my dad's (he also has a Fellows.
I really like the design. My dad's shredder is a boring-looking light beige color, but the one I bought is black, has a black and silver top and looks sleek. It sits right next the computer desk which is glass and black metal, so it blends right in. I don't really move it around, but there are wheels on the bottom if I need to, as it is not the lightest device in the world.
The one thing that I don't like is that this thing, for all the money I paid for it, does not do cross-cuts. I assumed incorrectly that a shredder over $100 like this one would include that feature. The vertical strips it does produce are not bad, but I would really prefer cross-cutting. If it was in heavy duty use I would probably have had to return it for a cross-cutting shredder, but this one suits my needs just fine for now. As long as I am doing just work documents with this and not a lot of financial stuff, it does the job.
